Gotrade Climb
Rethinking Referral: Random Luck to Clear Climb
Duration
8 hours
Role
Researcher, Designer
TL;DR
The current Random Stock up to $50 is exciting but cognitively noisy: users ask “what stock?” and “how much?”.
A 3-tier ladder gives identity (“I’m a Trailblazer”), momentum (goal-gradient), and clean economics.
Prevent awkward value variance between friends (one gets $2, another $40): hard to pitch, easy to disappoint.
Two extreme personas: Newbie and Seasoned Investor prefer tiers for different reasons (clarity vs control).
Color system blue → red → purple on Referral wouldn't compete with Prestige Black, so perks ≠ status.
Visible progression with 0 / 3 / 7 qualified referrals.
PROBLEM
The pitch you can't explain
We want referrals that scale without confusion.
Today’s Random Stock (≤$50) is a variable reward that sounds generous, but:
It reads like a mini-lottery (uncertain value)
It creates social inequity moments (“Kenapa punya gue cuma $3, dia $25?”)
It’s hard to explain confidently
How might we turn referrals into a clear, identity-driven progression users can explain confidently?
BASELINE
What we're replacing

Offer: “Invite a friend, get a random stock up to $50”.
Mechanics (simplified): Referee signs up → KYC → FTU action → referrer gets a randomly valued stock; both sides may unlock.
Problems:
Value clarity: “Is this $2 or $50? Do I choose the stock? Can I sell it?”
Explainer burden: referrers struggle to pitch it in chat like “Bro just sign up, you’ll maybe get free stock…”
Social inequity & awkwardness: variable payouts spark comparisons and disappointment inside friend groups, referrers feel less confident promising value
PROPOSAL
The new model
Three tiers, one story: Explorer (blue) → Hiker (red) → Trailblazer (purple).
Rewards for referee:
$2 after completed KYC + first transaction ≥ Rp2.000.000.
Rewards for referrer:
Explorer (0-2 referral) → $1 every FTU + blue badge
Hiker (3-6 referral) → $2 every FTU + orange badge
Trailblazer (≥7 referral) → $3 every FTU + red badge
Why this wins:
Clarity > randomness: every friend = known $ for both sides; no “lottery” variance.
Goal-gradient: progress bars make the last two invites pop
Explainer-light: KYC + transfer Rp2jt → you get $2. I get $1–$3 depending on my tier”
MINI IN-DEPTH INTERVIEW
Two-extremes strategy
Newbie investor: Mrs. S, 56
A non-investor, grow money in digital banks.
Current program (Random Stock ≤$50):
"Jadi sahamnya dapet random? Gimana cara taunya?"
“Mau ajak temen aja jelasinnya agak susah. Kayak ga yakin.”
Tiered program:
“Kalau mau bantuan temen daftar, enak ngomongnya: ‘Bantu gue naik level dong, 2 lagi nih'”
“Lucu warnanya, ga serius kayak app saham”
Switch moment: Seeing the Hiker card with “2 more to go.”
Seasoned investor: Mr. J, 24
Trades across apps, asset class, cares about fees and reliability.
Current program (Random Stock ≤$50):
“Kalau random dan gak suka mending jual, daripada ngotorin porto”
“Gak enak juga nawarin random, kayak aneh.”
Tiered program:
“Simple, enak tinggal kirim ke grup trading ga perlu tanya-tanya”
"Kalau udah banyak, makin untung. Kayak passive income deh"
Switch moment: The Trailblazer concrete perks + a checklist (“KYC + first transfer ≥ 50k”).
JOBS TO BE DONE
Clear steps, proud invites
Newbie: “Help me invite friends without looking clueless, so I feel proud leveling up.”
Seasoned: “Help me convert my circle efficiently with benefits I can stand behind.”
Give them one hub, one script, one meter—and rewards that feel like product value, not a raffle.
FLOW TEARDOWN
Key moments compared side-by-side
Moment | Random Stock (current) | Tiered Ladder (proposed) |
|---|---|---|
Learn | “Up to $50 in random stock!” (value clarity) | “3 tiers. 0/3/7 qualified invites. See perks & your progress.” |
Explain to friend | “You might get a free stock…” | “Sign up + KYC + first transfer 50k. We both unlock.” |
Motivation | Spike (novelty), then meh | Consistent (identity + next-tier meter) |
Social currency | “freebie” | “I’m a Trailblazer” |
DESIGN PROPOSAL
Teaching the loop, driving the move

This screen teaches the loop in one glance so users can share with confidence. We spell out the deterministic value and the exact steps to qualify, replacing the “mini-lottery” feel with a clear climb.
Why it matters: users know precisely what to do, what they’ll get, and how many friends move them to the next tier. No guesswork, no awkward “random stock” comparisons.

Once invites are out, the page becomes a simple conversion tracker. Every friend shows up with a clear status, so referrers instantly see who’s one step away from unlocking rewards.
If someone hasn’t deposited yet, their row highlights “Needs deposit” with how many days remain, and the user can remind them in one tap (prefilled message). This keeps the pitch consistent: “KYC + deposit → you get $1; I earn $1–$3 depending on my tier.” The list organizes itself around what moves the meter fastest, helping users hit Hiker (3) and Trailblazer (7+) without doing any mental sorting.
ROLLOUT
Steps to do this beyond right
Week 1: instrument baseline
Week 2: 10% cohort to Tiers (0/3/7), keep current offer to control, daily funnel readouts
Week 3: expand to 50%
Week 4: go global if K-factor ↑ and support load flat or lower
North-star: K-factor ↑ with support load flat or lower.
EXPECTED RESULT
Win-win-win solution
Newbie: low-risk language, clear steps, colorful identity = confidence to share.
Seasoned: predictable perks, control over ask, no raffle admin.
